Greetings!
"What's in a name?"  According to the Farlex Dictionary of Idioms: "What someone or something is called or labeled is arbitrary compared to their or its intrinsic qualities. A reference to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, in which Juliet bemoans Romeo's last name of Montague, her family's sworn enemies."
Today's selections were chosen primarily based upon their titles. I suspect that naming pieces of music is meant to communicate some type of message from the composer.  Whether it's meant to be narrative, technically descriptive, relay emotion or humor, be provocative, employ a total non-sequitur or present any combination of the above, the title is often the first piece of information related about any given piece of music. ("Have you heard_________?")   Let's see how arbitrary the titles of today's playlist turn out to be.

 Welcome to another veritable potpourri of music, with phase one featuring new releases from the folks at 577 Records which segues through the Paul Flaherty release to focus on various assemblages featuring Jim Matus (who I once had the honor of seeing play in his Hartford, CT apartment), then over to an old friend, harmonic overtone singer & CT denizen, Jim Cole (who I took some overtone singing lessons from, back in the day).  The balance of the show highlights mostly newer independent releases.

According to the Miriam-Webster dictionary, one of the possible definitions of the word "multiples", when used as a noun, is "something in units of more than one or two".  That will be the conceptual thread tying today's program together.  Pieces of music that are primarily played by multiples of the same instrument, though several composers took the idea of multiples to new limits, such as Henry Brandt and Karlheinz Stockhausen who created compositions for multiple orchestras.
This will likely be the first in a series of "multiples" programs since there were many other potential selections and only 1 hour and 59 minutes at hand. (If you have other "multiples" selections you'd like to hear, please drop me a line.)
